If you are considering a career in aesthetic nursing, you should know upfront that you are choosing a dynamic and exciting career with an enormous amount of professional potential. However, it never hurts to look before you leap. Today, we are looking at the legal limitations and considerations that every potential student should know before starting their first day on the job. While laws in respect to this job field vary by state and the scope of the particular practice, this is a brief overview so that you can be a little more informed of the law as it stands in Massachusetts.
Knowing the Legal Implications of Aesthetic Nursing
Knowing the law in respect to aesthetic medicine is very important if you want to start your own business, but it is just as important if you are starting work at an existing practice. First and foremost, you will need to provide proof of training before starting your first day on the job. Every injection treatment needs to be ordered by a qualified provider even if that provider is not performing the procedure themselves, and the qualifications of this provider vary by state. In Massachusetts, for example, independent practice nurse practitioners cannot operate without restriction. However, across the state line in Maine, Nurse Practitioners can open their own practice and supervise RNs as they perform the procedures. In Massachusetts, state law requires that an on-site physician supervise procedures for at least one element of the procedure. It is important to know that RNs cannot have independent practices in any state, and a Nurse Practitioner is a minimum qualification for a supervisor for an aesthetic medical practice.
